I think Keith (opelspyder) has covered that topic in both the restoration thread on my car and his current restoration thread. Here is the link from my car...

When I did my headliner I got a tip from somewhere (don't remember exactly where) to use a bunch of binder clips like those that you would find at an office stationary store to dry fit the headliner in place. I used 3M spray contact adhesive to glue in the insulation and the headliner vinyl.
The headliner bows go in a particular order and they are colour coded, I found that somewhere on this site. There were no windows in my car when I installed the headliner, which is how it is meant to be. If you still have the windshield and rear glass in, I guess you have to tuck the headliner in somehow... HTH, jtb |

In the interest of keeping this thread on-topic (that is, related to the installation of GT Headliner), I have split off the fascinating discussions on searching versus asking to a brand new thread called
Search or Ask: That is the Topic at http://www.opelgt.com/forums/general...ask-topic.html

I gave it the old college try. And although I've been successful with upholstery projects, the headliner turned out looking like crap.
A professional might be the way to go. |

The key is to really take your time, be patient, and don't try to rush things. I recently did the headliner in my GT. It was the first time I've ever done a headliner of this type. It took me 6 days total (spread out over three weekends) but it turned out surprising well.

Couple more tips
I think Installing a headliner would be near impossible with the glass in place. I would wait until a very warm day to install the headliner. Lay it out in the sun and get nice and soft. This will allow you to stretch the headliner properly and when it cools it will help pull all of the wrinkles out as it stretches tight. Use a really good name-brand contact adhesive. I used some off brand from Pep-Boys because I was in a huge hurry. Stuff just did not hold. I would try 3M Super 77. Use the binder clips- lots and lots of them. Get a few sizes so you can get them in small places. You will need a lot because you really have to stretch the headliner and the more you use the more you can stretch- not to mention that they hold the headliner against the contact adhesive. You will need to trim the headliner- I think that is true of all of them. Also, don't know about what others think but I started in the middle, lining up that goes on the B pillar. I then stretched out from there. Seemed to work for me. Good Luck. Nathan Albuquerque New Mexico |
