Unanswered: windshield restoration??

An unfortunate mishap has left me with a broken windshield on my GT. While I do have another windshield,Im afraid that it just wont be quite up to snuff with the rest of the car. Meaning: the spare was from a car that was pretty much cooked out in the sun for many years, and if I were to put it in my car it would look out of place. Has anyone tried to restore a windshield with some sort of buffing compound or something of the sorts? An online search has not been very productive......the whole situation has made me sick to my stomach......

What seems to be the problem with the replacement windshield? If it is cracked, pitted, deeply scratches, or delaminating nothing can be done. But if it is lightly scratched or etched it can be buffed out overall or also spot buffed in select areas. Eastwood company sells several products and kit that may be able to help.

I bought the glass polishing kit from Eastwood. I tried to buff out the windshield wiper burn marks on the windshield, BUT, I noticed no difference from before or after. I did not try to grind the windshield down.

I have the same problem on the driver's side of my windshield. Mine looks pretty bad; how much can buffing/grinding fix? Mine is appx. a half inch across on the inner arch of the wiper. Does not catch a thunbnail, but very rough.

You can restore a windshield yourself or have a glass place look at it first. I know of a place in Ocala that has always resolved the winshield dilema for us. Before you spend any money, have a reputable glass place, that advertizes small crack and chip removal, look at both units and evaluate the condition. You might find that for $50-80 your windshield can look like new again.

I had some scratches 3 years ago, and did quite well in removing them. I also tried toothpaste, a smokers toothpaste I think it was, and I must say it wasn`t less effective than the glass repair kit. I sprayed a little water on the windscreen from time to time when buffing. The process took several hours, so patience is a key word here. It`s a very slow process, but I saw a very good result in the end. And, I also have to say that I had very good help from this little girl who did a great job. She was buffing for hours and hours.
