Unanswered: Pop-out quarter windows

Dear all,
During my last visit in France ( OPEL GT ALSACE), I drove Targa GT of one of our members. Without the roof, there were a lot of air vibrations. When the quarter windows are opened, the vibrations disappeared.
So I have to modify my 1969 GT ( with fixed quarter windows) with pop-up quarter windows.
When I was young, I remember I saw electric pop-up windows on a car.....
but I don't remember which model ( japanese or european,....)
Do you know a car with this system?

1998 Olds Silloette(Mini Van) has this feature. I'm sure all of the GM clones will have this. I'm sure other years of this body style have this. Good Luck.

I'm not sure, but, I think most all of the later model mini-Vanshave some type of system. Or, you can make your own by following what this Opel member has done:

I know that BMW E-46 coupe had motorized rear quaters. Those are probably VERY expensive though.

Your first issue is to make your fixed quarter windows into a pop-out style, which requires a different window and seal and also a bracket to allow a clasp or some other attachment at the trailing edge. IIRC, Wayne Torman (the author of the power window series above) also created a tech article on how to convert a fixed quarter winder to a pop-out. I am at work this afternoon but when I get home I'll see if I still have that (I think it is a Word Doc with photos).
As for converting a pop-out quarter to electric operation, John Warga (aka ftl) here in Calgary did that to his GT. I'll see if I can track down his photos for that.

Oops, not Wayne Torman, but it was Rodney Killingsworth (aka Killer Texas GT) who created the referenced Word document documentary. It can be found, along with some other ideas at
http://www.opelgt.com/forums/2b-seat...-question.html
That thread also references the Download Section at
Opel File Downloads - File Downloads - The Classic Opel Forums
and a .pdf version of Rodney's conversion at
Opel File Downloads - The Classic Opel Forums

I think the key thing is to find a complete set of pop-out quarter windows, WITH the glass, rubber moulding and chrome trim, and then decide what you are going to use for the rear lever arm, either the stock arm and the retrofit bracket and some kind of actuator, or just a complete actuator that replaces the function of the lever arm.

As for John Warga's power quarter window conversion, I found a thread that shows the finished product, but almost accidentally as the thread is about his re-wiring and moving the battery to the back. That thread is at
http://www.opelgt.com/forums/1e-othe...html#post25494
and look at the posts #'s 26, 32 and 38. IIRC, he bought some kind of motor (maybe a Chrysler mini-van's power rear windows?) from a local wrecking yard and attached a bell-crank to actuate both windows at once through rods. If you look closely, you can see he deleted the lever arms and the rods actually guide the window open and closed. John doesn't lurk here much, but if I think of it the next time we chat (usually every few weeks) I'll ask him if he has some additional photos and details of what he used for his power quarter window modification
