Guardrail,

Prior to answering this I would recommend that you do a search for "Light trouble"

I did and found this tread that might help you out.

http://www.opelgt.com/forums/2c-gt-h...=light+trouble

Also there a subdirector called "2C - GT Headlimps Troubleshooting, removal and repair" It has a lot of information in it, take a look and see if you can get some ideas!!

Moderators may scoll you for not posting to the right subforum

At first I have a whole lot of jokes come to mind regarding coke lite and opel lite. Not to mention the singing group in-sync(sp?). But enough of this tom foolery.

I would start by taking apart the headlights and associated mech to check for bad wires. Then if that is all good reassemble the whole thing making sure everything works smoothly.

Oh, I forgot to say check the micro switches prior to reassembly. Replace if needed. Now you may be asking, "How do I check those and where are they?" If you are asking these questions then if is time for me to refer you to the search option. The proceedure would take me more time to explain then it would for you to do a search. Then if you want you can print out the instructions and you don't have to interpret what I am saying.

I could write about 3 pages of instructions just on tearing down, inspecting and reassembling the headlights on a GT. And that is if there aren't any problems encountered.

Good luck and go slowly. It can be accomplished with minimal mechanical skills.

Mike

Those Darn Headlights!

Good article on R&R of GT Headlights. And I don't mean Rest & Recreation; R&R = Removal and Repair. Rest & Recreation is after the headlights work, and you take a beak until next items require repair.

it seems i am missing a nut of some sort that connects the nipple on the lever to the cable going to the lights. i have thought of making my own but i have no idea what it looks like. if anyone has a pic of it it would help tremendously.

Are speaking of the lever that is the bottom part of the handle? There were two hook ups that I know of. A ball stud bolted through the lever and the other IIRC was possibly welded in place. They look similar to some types of throttle linkage. Do you still have the socket on the end of your cable? It's similar to the socket's on the linkage going to your carb complete with a locking pin to keep it from popping off.

Sync-ing the two sides is easy if everything else is working properly. Loosen the bolt on the "clamp" that connects the two rods that are just above the hood hinge, either open or close both lights by hand and then tighten the bolt. If your lights are not flipping easily don't force anything or you will only make the problem worse. Follow the instructions in the old threads to do the repair. Very important to take your time and clean and lube everything.

I've ended up making a lot of parts for my restored GT. If you rather not go through the process for this little part check out the recent post in Rod Ends by Killer Texas GT. There are a lot of guys in this community that have extra parts because we just can't see getting rid of parts that we may need next century.... Well, you never know. Jerry
