If the rod is hooked up to the rotating mechanism but the headlight is not moving, you probably sheared the three bolts that go to the plate, Item #3 in the first pic. If that's the case, Keith Wilford has an excellant thread of the care and feeding of the rotating mechanisms on the site. You'll have to use the search button to find it, but well worth the effort to find and read.

Headlights Mechanism Adjustments (Crossbar)
Appears that crossbar between LH and RH headlight needs to be looked at. Open hood and look toward grill at underside of nose sheet metal to see crossbar. Refer to attached diagram; 11 & 14.
Does RH Headlight bucket rotate or not? Last edited by Lindsay; 05-16-2007 at 02:25 PM. Reason: Ask question |

It's "Stuck" at the top of this Forum, along with another article on headlight repairs. Often I just open up the Forum that seems to best fit the trouble, and then sort it by "Views" or Replies" (just click on either and the threads sort themselves). HTH

I have read through the mechanism rebuild, indeed a very cool thread and a lot of great information. When I bought my Opel it was in great shape as far as the body goes. I pulled it into my back lot and well forgot it had no brakes. I ended up tagging the tongue of a trailer which slammed directly into my passenger side headlight bucket and some of the body work around it... Very sad, anyway before that I could manually flip the headlight by just pushing it over. Now it is locked and not willing to move but maybe 1" or so. Looking at the cable part it appears to not be bolted to the headlight mechanism at all I suspect it was taken off by the PO due to failure of the mechanism. So I will be pulling the bent up bucket out to put a straight one in, while I am in there I figure I might as well fix the mechanism... Oh the good times that are ahead! Thanks for all the info it really did help!

Don't forget to inspect and repair headlight wiring when it is disassembled. If swivel mechanisms are removed from GT, time to lube mechanism and check micro-switches with continuity meter to ensure they work.
Another Adventuure!

Depending on what year your GT is, there may not be a microswitch in the right bucket. Lindsay is right though, if you get in there clean and lube everything, it's a real PIA to put it all back together and have to take it back apart later to redo it.
