Question Unanswered: headlight cable

My headlights have been hard to operate since I got the car. Yesterday the cable broke or came unhooked. I ordered a new cable from OGTS and plan on cleaning and lubing the rotating mechanisims when I install the cable. I also read all the posts I could find on installing the new cable. Looks like it can be a PITA to hook up the bottom end! Anybody out there have any tricks or tips on how to make this as painless as possible without removing the tranny.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know if it will help, but there is a ball socket on the lower end of the cable. similar to the throttle linkage with a locking pin in it. If you can get the pin out and pop off the socket from the ball, the cable should be easy to replace without dropping the tranny. I didn't have too much trouble putting that cable end on Willit? when the ball end fell off with the T-5 tranny installed, maybe there's more room with the standard tranny installed, it's been so log since I had a stock tranny in the car I don't remember how much room there is in the tunnel.
