Anybody out there have any tricks or tips on how to make this as painless as possible without removing the tranny.Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know if it will help, but there is a ball socket on the lower end of the cable. similar to the throttle linkage with a locking pin in it. If you can get the pin out and pop off the socket from the ball, the cable should be easy to replace without dropping the tranny. I didn't have too much trouble putting that cable end on Willit? when the ball end fell off with the T-5 tranny installed, maybe there's more room with the standard tranny installed, it's been so log since I had a stock tranny in the car I don't remember how much room there is in the tunnel.
