Unanswered: Headlight Bucket Adjustment
I just noticed that the upper lip (not the sides) of my headlight bucket assembly scrapes against the body when it rotates. I took a closer look after rotating my headlight bucket and I noticed the gap between the sides of the headlight bucket and sides of the body are not consistant. As you can see in the pic attached the gap around the headlight bucket is not consistant all the way around. How do you adjust the positioning from Left side to Right side to correctly align them? And how do you adjust the positioning from north to south to correctly align them? |

IIRC, the bracket the bucket bolts to under the cover has some slots that you can make adjustments left and right. For fore and aft, the adjustment is made with a bolt that goes into the pivot point in the front of the bucket. At least thats how I think the adjustments are made. It's been a while since I assembled mine.

For left right there are slotted holes in both the top brackets and the bottom pivot bracket, for North South there is a bolt in the bottom bracket with a locknut on it. Be careful, if they haven't been moved in a long time there is a good chance that the bottom pivot bolt is rusted in place. The correct way to do the job would be to disassemble the one bucket, clean everything up, lube the pivot points and then line it all up. Remember one very important thing, when you are adjusting you have to adjust with the bucket in the open position but that makes the adjustments backwards for left right in the closed position. It will also be very difficult to get them perfect in both the open and closed positions so go for perfect closed and open should be good enough for when it is dark out

Thanks guys!
After not thinking my question out carefully last night, I realized today the answer to my question was in my "Opel GT Owners Workshop Manual" Chapter 13 Bodywork, Image 13:11. Just an FYI if anyone else has the same question in the future. Neil |
