They require some work. If they open and close properly that is a good start. As far as the wiring that can be a pain it really can be so many seperate issue that would cause them to be inop. So it's hard to say what is wrong without alittle more background on them. If you can go and check them out alittle before buying the car that would be a plus. From what I have learned by working on mine and what the helpful people on the board have told me or previously posted you need to look closely at the wires going into the headlamp itself. They loose their insulating coating thru years of use and heat from circuit issues. All that said it isn't the worst thing to have but it does take some time and patience to get it right. HTH |

There's about 10 or more things you should look for when buying a GT. First and foremost would be rust at the 4 jack points, along the rocker panels below the doors, and the floor boards themselves. It is important because the car is a unibody and structual integrity is a must. The headlight wiring has already been addressed, but along with it is the general condition of the entire wiring harness, as in, is it still close to original or has there been some rewiring and why. Does it run and how does it go through the gears? Any wierd sounds? How about the brakes? Do the headlights roll over? Now for the hard stuff. How are your mechanical skills/tools? The GT is fairly easy to work on, but does have some idiosyncracies that endear us to them. Parts can be had from a couple of suppliers, members on the site and e-bay. The members on the site have a wealth of info and tips on anything Opel, the moderators would request you use the search engine and post questions in the appropriate forum. If you can't find an answer using the search feature, then by all means ask away. If you do purchase the GT, I can almost guarantee you that you will have more miles of smiles than any other car. If I have missed anything important to check for, others will add to what I already have.

Just one more thing.
See if the guy has both the key to the door and the ignition. They were separate keys and i was locked out of my car for a couple of days because I was ignorant to that fact. (I know its not an important part for the car, but it can save a world of a headache if you just make sure) Last edited by Redskinsjbs; 11-08-2008 at 08:31 AM. |
