Headlight cable

I discovered that while installing my Getrag, I damaged my headlight cable. OGTS doesn't carry a new one any more. The repo they used to have was $158! Gil said they quit selling it because he didn't like the quality of the connections on the repo. So I picked up a used one. I oiled it up well by hanging it up with a funnel of oil attached. Unfortunitly, it's no better (smoother) then the one I have. Shouldn't this type cable have a nice smooth movement?
Any suggestions other then taking a chance on another used one?

my headlight cable never moved very free, but you could move it with your hands. i put it together anyway, and they work easy by the lever, so maybe they do have resistance....?

Ttop, 350, T56 swap, many upgrades, basically a complete restore. 67 chevy sportvan deluxe....next in line.
