  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: Home Built Body Rotisserie

A while ago, I decided to build a "body dolly" for my Opel GT, since I had removed the suspension while restoring it, and the lack of being able to move it around was a great big pain in the butt. That thread can be found at: ...

  2. Sticky Thread Sticky: GT Hood Hinge Mount Repair

Well here is the first project of my resto. As with most Gt's the hood hinge has rusted solid. Got that to free up. Now comes the body mount bracket which has torn loose at each end. This happened on my first 1973 and my fix was to put a bracket in and support the broken mount. Worked great...

  3. Sticky Thread Sticky: Rolling and Raisable Body Dolly

I have had my GT up on tall jack stands (in order to remove the engine from below) for a VERY long time. OK, that's another story. But I removed the suspension a while back to rebuild and re-paint the pieces, and one of the reasons (excuses!) for not getting much more done to the car was the...

  5. Sticky Thread Sticky: Repair a Rear Wheel Fender Arch on a GT

When I got my GT media blasted down to bare metal, it became obvious that I had more sheet metal repairs to do than I thought. One of the repairs that I had done at the start of the restoration (some 20 years ago, but who's counting) was to fabricate some new sheet metal around the wheel arches in...

  6. Sticky Thread Sticky: Belgian GT Restoration: Where to look for rust; Great Photos

I was surfing this evening, and ran across the attached site. It has a really good photo documentation of a GT restoration. It shows where to look for rust, and a very professional method of repairing it. This should be of interest to anyone contemplating any kind of "serious" GT restoration, or...

  2. GT Side Window Louvers - On Topic

Where can I get GT side window louvers? I used to have the aluminum ones where each louver slat tucked independently into the rubber around the window. I don't recall ever seeing ones made any other way. They were a less than perfect fit and one slat did blow away one day, but, painted to match the...

  3. Paintscratch.com Now Has Opel Colors

Hi All, I was lamenting some time back on the Classic Opels newsgroup on how I couldn't find any of the "usual sources" online that sold touch-up paint kits for Opels. I guess there had just not been enough interest by customers to make it worthwhile for the vendors. :ugh: I finally sent an...

  4. Repairing hood hinges on a GT

Enu and I have been discussing how to reattach his GT's hood hinge brackets. To recap, the brackets that hold the hood hinges have seperated from the underside of the nose panel and they were seized up and it looks like it will be really hard to get a welding rod in there to tack them back on....

  5. Dual Action or Orbital, which to use?

I've done my fair share of body work now, but want to know which you should use when doing body work. I used a snap-on "Orbital/Palm Sander" that was super light weight and very comfortable in your hand. Dual actions are pretty much all the same, have a handle and are meant to operate with two...

I know this probably isnt the right place for this post. I apoligize. Has anyone built a rotisserie for the opel gt? Im thinking about using 2 of the harbor freight engine stands and doing some modification. I dont want to spend alot of money on it cause it will probably only get used once.

  7. Opel GT Body / Rear end with *with fender flares*

I'm hoping someone can readily obtain this info: I need the max width of an opel gt once (Opel GTS) steinmetz flares are installed on the rear. Basically, I'm looking to see what rears will fit without narrowing, after the flares will be installed. I'll be getting new wheels, so I can buy...

  8. Hood pins

I have been asked a couple of times about our hood pins so I thought I'd post a short description here. When we got our car the hood release cable was working but we weren't going to be keeping the dash, so we figured we'd just get rid of the cable and use hood pins. Then during the build we...

  9. Belly Pan Replacement

I need some advice on what's involved in replacing a belly pan from any members out there who have done this. My current belly pan is dented near the front lip and dented and corroded out underneath. Either way the current pan needs to go. I'm considering replacing it with another metal pan...

  10. Doing some bodywork

Park in San Francisco one day and when I got back to the car it had a hug dent in the front, and the bumper looked like a pretzel. I decided to start work on it. Is coming alone okay but I am not sure of the final shape, due to the fact that both left and right sides are damage. I was wondering if...

  11. Foam-Filling the Chassis

I thought the article extract below deserved it's own thread. The link to it was originally posted by RallyBob in another thread that we hijacked for this topic: In any high-performance car, it is impossible to make the chassis too stiff. The stiffer the chassis, the higher its natural...

  12. Replacement body parts for Rekord P types

There are not as many resources available for those of us who have the Rekord P1 or especially the P2 vehicles, but there are some body replacement parts or patches available. PS Autoteile offers a patch set for rocker panels and a patch for the lower rear quarter panel for the P2 four-doors on...
