Unanswered: Rotisserie Solution for the GT
also, what do you think i should charge for a GT motor that was rebuilt from the ground up (with the exception of the cam and lifters in the head)... yes, same one with that bad cam in it. I'm just going to put the car on permanent project status, strip er down to her skivvies, and do this thing the right way from the word go. thoughts, advice, solutions all appreciated.

A search (albeit with the correct spelling
) or even a look at the correct Forum (where I moved this to) would have shown this thread:http://www.opelgt.com/forums/2d-body...otisserie.html HTH

well... money where the mouth is and all that:
Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices i just bought two of those... Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices and 6 of those. i order 20 feet of 2 x 2 by 3/8in wall tubing tomorrow to build the bottom frames of the two stands, and the upright tubes on each. so far my rig is at 120 bucks. hopefully Alro doesn't rip my guts out my rear with the metal and i can get this built for around 300 dollars total. heres hoping anyways. anyways, the current plan is thus: two 48 inch long lengths of tube to generate the base, welded together in a T shape. at the intersection of the T, one 24 inch tube upright. weld 3 of the casters at the ends of the T shape and have a simple sort of stand made. Weld some tabs on for the bottom of that jack and start to create the sliding upright shaft, with a knuckle on top. i'll prolly gusset the upright to the top length of the T base frame (the jack will be in the way of a third gusset) and gusset the T shape itself for strength. i'll take pictures when i start getting it together. hmm... i might buy some extra steel and casters and make my own engine hoist while i'm at it, just pull the jack off the car rotisserie. hmm. ideas and budgets. (sigh)

if you ever get the opportunity NOT to use Harbor frieght, i suggest it highly.
also, i bought my steel, 24 feet of 2 sq 11 guage wall tube, and 24 feet of 1 1/2 sq 11 guage wall tube. i'll be using the 2sq to make the legs and bases, while the 1 1/2 sq will be the telescoping shaft and gusset materials (and the lengthwise bar between the two stands if i got enough left over) i bought it direct from ALRO just now, 145 bucks delivered to my shop. that with the 140 dollars for the casters and hydraulic jacks and i'm looking at just shy of 300 bucks (toss in some paint). i think i can find the tube material to make the pivot points at the scrap yard. After that i need to design the two mounting brackets for the GT, rip every everything off the car and get busy! yar!

steel came in today, i'm going to go ahead and start breaking it down into its proper size lengths, and start building up the frames. the numskulls at harbor frieght still haven't gotten my good sent out yet so i'm kinda shooting in the dark for the telescoping part of the whole rig. *sigh*
i'll try to get some pictures around ... i have access to a metal working manufacturing floor but not a camera. *sigh*

been a while since i updated:
i have the two legs welded together and gusseted. in true shop form here, we set it accross two tables and i jumped up and down on it to stress test. i weight 250 pounds, and i wasn't goofin around, i was jumping as high as i could and landing on it. according to the guy standing nearby drinking a moosehead (chuckles) the frame barely budged at all. I've created the mounting points for the bottom of the jack, they get welded on tonite. i still have to come up with a solution for the top of the telescoping arm to make a knuckle/pivot point. At this point at full extension the pivot point nuckle will be a good 52 inches from the ground. with the car rotated up on its side i think i'll be reaching upwards of 80 something inches. This of course allows me to lift the rig as high as i could possibly desire and get my results. The boss ordered a digital camera just the other day, so i hope to be able to get pictures up soon.
