bumper spacing

I'm working on welding the front end back on my GT. I'm mounting everything before I do the permanent welding. I have looked at 100's of pictures trying to figure out the proper bumper spacing on the left and right sides. ie. under the side lights. Mine turns out to be between 7/16 to 1/2 inch right at the bracket position. I have seen some pictures that are about the same and some that are much closer.

I have attached a few photos for your review. Can someone tell me what is correct distance. I can't see how people can get them closer with out cutting and shortening the width of the bumper.

Mine measures 0.42" between the bumper and the body right at the back of the turn light and that's mighty close to 7/16". It seems to be pretty equally spaced all along there. HTH

I had the same question a while back, I didn't use a dimension I did it by a set of pictures here is the thread

From what I have read on this site, a perfect fitting bumper is hard to fine/non-existent. Due to the age of our Opels, the body and parts will warp over time.

See this thread here and you will see many others have the same problems with fitting the front bumper properly.
