well i guess if it was going to be a daily driver it wouldnt be the best idea. the main idea of this car was to be a show car. but a few things have changed and im going to sell it. If i cant find the title im more than likely gonna part it out.

You would have to go to a body shop to see if they can fabricate what you want. There is no "one way" to do this.

Just taking a shot here, I'd weld the OEM buckets (headlight side up, or 'open') and make a bracket for the type of headlight I wanted to use, then attach/glue/screw a plexiglass/lexan cover over it.

That might work, but you would have to use small headlights such as projector beam, because std square headlights would be too big and be above the plane of the car.

Not if you got the smaller of the old "square headlights", they'd work.

I think the old 4 lamp set up would still be too big. The only ones I think would work would be the type they used on the '88-91 C series trucks or the last generation camaro, but they aren't dual filament so I don't know how you would use a high beam.

This is all speculative as I like the frog eyes

I think the small sq. Headlights from the 80's VW Rabbit ( I think it was the Rabbit) They were Hella with H-4 bulbs. They also had h-1 high beams that were the small sq. lights. They were made of plastic. I have a set that I pulled from a car a long time ago. I've use them as aux lights on various offroad cars.

In fact it was a 1980 VW Jetta. (google it. worked for me)

Yes they are but unless I'm not understanding something, they want the same thing, but with the bucket still installed. The origianl picture appears to have the buckets removed.

well just leave us hanging then ok ....If I was you and wanted to do what your actually looking for I would use projection lights like the mits 3000 has....if you look at the picture of the square light it does not in my opinion clear the reflective path of the housing. Of course you realize that you can single beam it with a projection and add the high power lights to the turn signal in the opening under bumper. The turn lights can be added to the side markers in front.
Just another opinion we all have them. Keep us posted. Pics as you progress.

Federal law dictates the center of the sealed beam or the filament in a replaceable bulb headlight must be between 24 and 54 inches from the ground. Anything else is illegal. Sure you might not get a ticket for it, but still.

I don't think very many of us cops are writing many federal vehicle violations, and I have yet to meet any federal traffic cops.

In CA state law mandates a minimum of 22" and a max of 54". (CVC 24400)

Anything under the bumper on a GT is still way lower than 22". Every state I've researched has a code similar to "a vehicle must have lighting that conforms with federal lighting code blah-blah-blah in effect during the year of manufacturer." State law enforcing federal standards. Again, you're probably not going to get a ticket for it, but if I were a LEO I would give out the ticket.
