Unanswered: Fresh Paint!

After 140+ hours of blocking and prep work, we shot the '73 Saturday afternoon. The photos really don't do the color justice, but when I saw "Amber Gold" on an '09 Ford F-150 I knew it was perfect for this project. There are 3 coats of colorcoat and three more of clearcoat. The best part is that a friend is an exceptional painter and his work exceeded my expectations: No runs or orange peel!

So now the fun begins - reassembly!

To clean things up a little, we welded and filled in the antenna hole in the fender as well as the front and rear side marker lights.

IDK what the State laws are there for exterior lights, but that would be a no-no here in CA.

I wish I had that much space to work in my garage. Nice color!

I know also that the sidemarkers have to be on there in TX or it won't pass safety inspection.

Michigan has no vehicle inspections, so eliminating the side marker lights isn't a problem here.

Looks like it went from Rally Gold to Amber Gold. I can tell from the reflection that it's a very nice paint job. Did you pull the engine and paint the engine compartment and engine? It's more work but it looks so much better when that's done.

No Jerry, I didn't pull the engine...although I couldn't agree more that it looks 100% better when the engine and engine compartment is fully detailed. I've done that on every project I've done in the past, but then they turn out to be almost too nice to drive and turn into garage funiture instead - not to mention it gets expensive. This one is intended to be a daily driver not a show car.

My experience has been once the engine is pulled, I might as well have it rebuilt - there goes another $1,500. Of course that's the perfect time to replace the entire exhaust - but then I usually spend an additional $500-600 to get it ceramic coated to make it look better and last longer. And it just goes on and on and on....

Yes it does, On and On and On, I started my project to be "just a daily driver" and look what happened. BTW in case you had not noticed I like gold too. Sweet paint job on your car, good luck.

Of course I noticed you like gold! Seeing photos of yours before helped confirm my decision to go with a similar color.

Not every vehicle looks good in what many people consider to be a somewhat gaudy color, but most everyone seems to agree it fits an O-GT very well.

Hey, Jeeps, I shouldn't have been so short in my first post to your thread here. But I must say that color is really neat. A fine job, both in prep and in painting. After seeing your car and Jeff's, I've decided my monza will be a similar color, when I get that far on it.
