Unanswered: Flame Red Paint Code? (was "New Member Needs Help")

I hope someone may be able to help me with my "current" Opel problem.
I have recently decided to repaint my 72 Opel GT. I'm fairly confident that the color I want to use is called "Flame Red" however I am having trouble nailing down the color code for this particular color. To be clear, I'm not looking for the manufactures code (the code Opel used), but the specific code used by Dupont, PPG, RM or any other major PAINT manufacturer for this color.
The search so far has been very fustrating to say the least.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Gary Panarotto

Seems like you are looking for #508 flame red, or Kardinalrot. Here is a link to Dupont's historical color library:

???txt.title???

Click on the 71/72 link and you will get the chart you need. Dupont codes are 8547D3 and 8547L3.
Under 1970 it shows a different Dupont code, though: 848/2001-CG375H

Hope this helps.

Dieter

Opel GT "Flame Red" US-Export Color Codes were #8547DH (Dupont Enamel) and #71891 (Ditzler Enamel),
according to Opel Tech Bulletins 1971-1973 (although there was no listing for this color in 1972),
as was summarized in the OMC Blitz of March/April 2009.

There was also a similar-appearing "Fireglow Orange" available from 1971-1973.

Opel GT original paint color sales codes and "samples" are at:

paint and code source

Not sure if people are still looking for these, but here is a site that has the old codes and also mix paint.

for those looking for something more custom check these guys....

HOK Paint - Buy Warehouse Direct at Wholesale Pricing

I have a friend who does body work and has a lot of different "hook-ups'' like 3M as well as other materials.....he has been more than reasonable for everything I've purchased. With the economy in the state it is now in, I'd like to pass on whatever help is possible to fellow Opel enthusiasts.
