Unanswered: Front leaf-spring

I originall bought my car with the 1.1L, and have recently converted all the drivetrain parts to withstand the 1.9L, except for the front leaf spring. I begain to dissassemble the front end to remove the spring, but noticed that the leaf that was in there was identical to the 1.9L spring i had purchased. Is there a dead-givaway on these springs to determine that i already have the 1.9L spring installed? Thanks guys and gals. you've all been a great help throughout this ongoing process.

If my memory is correct (definitely questionable) the 1.1 spring had two leafs and the 1.9 had 3. If you end up replacing the one you have, you ought to consider the spring OGTS sells. Not the "sport" spring but what they call the "intermediate". Installation is easy & much safer than the original.

i can definetly see where your getting the 'safer' aspect... I started to remove the original, and it sprung right up...scared the crap outta me...then i noticed they looked the same...and put it right back where it came from...

All GTs had 3 leafs; according to the original Opel manuals, there was only a difference in spring rates from 1.1 to 1.9 GTs. I don't think there is a dead give-away to tell them apart (hard to measure spring rates in your driveway...) The manuals talk about color coding marks on the various front suspensions with different spring rates, but I've never seen them in real life.
1.1 Kadetts had 2 leafs and 1.0 Kadetts had one leaf (!).

Here's a link all about leaf spring tools and safety issues, a must-read...
