Unanswered: What is this mystery part?

I found it in the brake and front suspension parts for my 73 GT. Its rubber but might not have come from the brake or suspension or even my GT.

Similar to what opelkadette said, in my car there is a very similar part just above the middle silencer, to prevent it from hitting the underbody during vibrations.

But it is slightly different, mine slides in a metal bracket, while yours looks like it slides over a bracket....

That's where it goes on the stock spring and is shown in the parts book as a bumper .
