Unanswered: Tough Steering Column

I am pulling out the column so I can work on other stuff more freely. I have the workshop manual and I have followed all the instructions and I have tried pulling it off. It won't budge. Also the manual says to not put force on the column or plastic breakaway parts might break. Does that mean no pulling on the column or no force at all. I think the thing holding the column down is the two piece that were once held by the collar are not fused a little. Can I use WD-40 on it?

Conrad, what model Opel you talking about? If a GT, there are 4 bolts holding the column to the structure and the instrument panel, and an allen head bolt where the column goes into the steering rack. I've had to open up the slot next to where the allen head bolt goes into to free it up a bit, because tightening down on the allen bolt squeezes down the hole the column goes in to. HTH.

Is that allen bolt right before the column connect to the universal joint? I thought that the column was supposed to come off after the universal joint. I think I found the allen bolt, does it look like a star bolt?

Heres' a pic of the allen head bolt that secures the column into the steering rack. The bolt must be removed completely because there is a recess or groove in the column where the bolts goes into. HTH.

Oh, I was planning on taking off the column before it got that far, but I guess I can do it there too, probably better so there is even less stuff inside the car. That bolt is tougher than hell and I am all out of liquid wrench.

O.K., if you want to take the coulumn apart from the u-joint inside the car, pull the bolt that clamps the two shafts together. The shaft has the same recess or groove in the upper end, as the bottom, so the clamp bolt has to be removed completly also. HTH.

Alright, I'm back on this again. I was living with it just hanging down a bit with zip ties holding it up. When I tried to remove the column at a yellow part that had a clamp holding everything together (its the same as in the picture except mine is yellow not blue) I was able to move it about 1/4". Well now I wanna put it back together but I cannot force it back that 1/4" inch. I wouldn't mind except the bolts don't line up. How do I open up that yellow part so everything can move easier?
