Just an FYI for anyone wanting an aftermarket steering wheel-

Take a look at the MOMO marine steering wheels on Ebay, they fit regular MOMO adapters and you can get a steering wheel for $15 or less. They are made from PVC and designed to be in the full sun all of the time so they are pretty rugged. You can also recolor them easily with any of the spray on vinyl dyes out there. I have been running a momo marine wheel for a while and it looks great.

I bought that same brand of adapter form that same seller about a 1.5 Years ago. no problems!!

It Fits in my GT and My Momo wheel. All the signals cancelling tabs work even the Horn Button. But I have is Part#5203 form the Picture it has highlighted another Part (S5201) and nowhere in the description does it say wich one he is selling you. I would just confirm it is #5203. Maybe there is some interchangeability between parts, but at least I can confirm that #5203 work perfectly on the GT with a Momo steering wheel.

The service manual states to torque the center nut holding the steering wheel to the column only to 11lb ft. I know the center section is soft, but does this torque spec apply to Momo adapters as well? Also, I have no locking tab - should I use some thread lock? Given the light torque spec, I was going to lightly oil the spline and give the hub a good whack with a rubber mallet to seat it on the colum before tightening the nut.

Any feedback would be appreciated. I'd prefer to not have the steering wheel drop into my lap if I can avoid it.

    Thanks

    Todd,

oiling is always a good idea, but save the whacking and either get a locking tab or make one out of sheet metal - its doable and it doesn't need to be pretty. I would not put threadlocker on this specific nut. Damaging your spindle when later removing it is too easy.

Thanks Dieter. You're right about the tab - it's an easy thing to make. I'm just lazy and don't want to unpack my stuff to go make one.

Is anyone else trying to sell a house right now? If you're even contemplating it - DON'T!

    Thanks!
I got this one for my GT as I have a Momo wheel already with an incorrect hub. At first it didn't go on far enough. There was a huge gap and it was not going onto the spline far enough. I could feel it hitting, not just getting snug. Per Gene's instructions, I removed material on the inside of the hub where the shaft was rubbing. I used my Dremel and was very careful and did a little at a time, removing where it left a mark from rubbing. I also had to solder a ground wire to the spring inside my horn ring and run it under a screw on the hub. There was still a small gap from the steering column to the ring on the adapter. I found that the ring is plastic and is just pressed onto the aluminum housing so you can slide it down to fill the gap. All worked well, horn and cancel tab. Looks good. I guess I'll hold on to my crack free original just in case I want to go back to stock.

I was having problems attaching my pics the other day, so here they are.

Looks good George! I hope the MOMO wheel was a good price, as they're not cheap. It looks like one I got for my ex-GT. Also, unsrew your turn signal lever and treat it to a good coat of Krylon and make it look new again. Also, get some leather treatment for your wheel. Use it sparingly, and the wheel will be better for it.

The flash makes the wheel look worse than it is. I do plan on doing a color dye on the wheel. I got the wheel for $45 in Germany.
I also have an hub adapter that could have been modified to work. It does not have a cancel post, but there is a blank spot that I could drill out and add one. Also there is only a hole where the horn wire would go so I would have to located that brass spring/wire thingy. If I get around to those two things, maybe I will sell it. It is a nice MOMO adapter.
