how much side side to side play is there supposed to be in the steering shaft where it goes through the firewall? mine moves a good 1/2" in either direction and it seems like there should be a bushing in there but there is no evidence of one, as always, thanks in advance

here is the engine side of the firewall, it just seems like there should be a bushing in there but I can see light coming through and there is no support for the shaft, maybe a the bushing got eaten up by battery acid that previously spilled??? Anyone know if this looks right??

On reinspecting the shop manual I did find one picture that shows what is called a clamp bolt that apears to fasten a clamp that retains a bushing around the steering shaft on the engine side of the firewall but on my car there is no evidence of one, no bolt hole or anything, did opel not use these bushings on all mantas?? Anyone happen to have an extra steering shaft clamp/bushing??? thanks again
