Unanswered: Steering

How stiff is the steering on these GT's? Will my 16 year old daughter be able to handle one safely and comfortably?

Thanks.

Once the car is rolling the steering is fairly light. Sitting still, is another matter, it is stiff. HTH.

she'll be fine. if it does turn a little stiff even when rolling, take the rack and pinion out, clean it and lube it, top it off with new boots from OGTS. boots are prone to ripping and they get dry. i need to do this myself

What you may actually find it that over the years the suspension has been worked on bushes fitted, so may have been in pieces many times.

What you need to do is what I did. My brother has a GT as do I but his steering was noticabley lighter than mine and it turned out that mine needed its geometery setting up again. This is not the same as getting your tracking done at your local tyre shop but involves shims which sets up all the alignment including the tracking, toe in/out and most importantly the camber.

If it is not set up correctly, all the suspension and steering works against itself and makes the car very heavy and twitchey in corners.

Well worth getting it done, its only about £70 to have it done in the UK.

kadett to the rescue

And if all the above fails, there's always the option of moving the rack slightly fowad with some spaces and fitting Kadett arms to the spindles. They are longer, so the steering wil be a bit "slower" but easier to turn the wheel.
