Unanswered: steering shaft install - help

can anyone shed light on installing the steering shaft into the pinion shaft (attached to the rack) on a '71 Kadett? I don't want to force anything and cause damage. I removed the collar but the fit is very tight.

I am completely mystified - that is why you have not heard from me for a while. I removed my steering conection several months ago and it slid back in without any hastle. I have been under my 1967 Kadett to have a look and cannot, for the life of me, see the problem. Can you take a couple of good pictures of your problem area and put them up here so we can have a look at the coupling? That is all I can suggest right now - there has got to be a simple explaination ........

mystified too

Thanks Jim.

I'll take some pictures this weekend and send them along. I'm as baffled as you on this. After removing the collar nut/bolt and collar, the shaft just slid right out. Everything else on the overhaul has been going well and without issues.
