Unanswered: Bad tire or ????

I'm getting a thump thump thump noise out of my car. I don't think it's coming from the front because I don't feel it though the steering wheel. It gets faster the faster I go. It stays the same whether the car is in gear or not and if the car is on or not. The tires are pushing 20 to 25 years but they still look fine, but just to be on the safe side I'll be getting new ones soon. No deformations or anything that I can determine. Anybody have any clues?

Thanks
Bob

No, but I've thought about it. She who must be obeyed said that it is coming out of the left front.

I would suspect those 25 year old tires if I were you, even if you can't see anything wrong. Maybe a separated tread belt, or a small knot somewhere.
Good Luck!

I thought I was "She who must be Obeyed (I love PBS)". However, maybe she is right. Women often have a feel for these kind of things!

The Title of the Book is "She" by H. Rider Haggard's. Title character Ayesha. Written in 1886.

However, I'm much more familiar with the reference from PBS' Rumpole.

Might have to borrow your copy.

What? I can go 1700 miles to get to McAllen and you can't go 350 to meet me in the "middle" ?

Back on Topic, Thanks for the info. That's what I was thinking, but unfortunately the tire place here doesn't have much of a selection other than some off brand I've never heard off. Apparently not too much call for 185/70r13s when all you see is mostly thin sidewall 17 inch and above.

Called the folks back and the only size 185/70r13 they had was a chinese no-name tire - Maybe a good tire, maybe not, don't want to find out . Going somewhere else that sells cooper tires. They will have them in later in the week.

I vote for tires. The tires that were on my GT when I bought it were date coded 1977! I drove the car back from Salt lake city, 850mi. Max 60 mph or the rear of the car would almost jump off the road. Les Shwab tried to balance but said they were out of round from sitting so long. Rubber is nice and soft with lots of tread but are junk except as period tires for a trailer queen. Not safe at any speed over 25mph!
Toyo sells a 185/70/13 they call Spectrom.

It was the tires - Replaced them with a set of cooper trendsetters. They seem to be a pretty good tire.
