Unanswered: polishing old wheels

Has anyone used the Mothers powerball on their original wheels? If so, what was your opinion. I'd like to shine up my wheels, but I don't know if I use the powerball will I will do more harm than help. I've seen what looks like new wheels(old style) and would like to know what folks used to get them to that point.

Thanks

The powerball is made for aluminum wheels. All the GT's in the US came with steel wheels. You could possibly use it on trim rings (if your car came with them), but it might be more prudent to remove the trim rings and clean them up by hand anyway.

I used a powerball to restore neglected aluminum "mags" on my 4-runner and it worked quite well. I thought the ball would be gone but it's holding up for now. RallyeBob is as usual correct on the wheel material distinction, but I haven't tried it on steel. My old painted stamped wheels wouldn't take well to that kind of polishing.

Just wondering because it says for stainless steel also. Can you give me a suggestion on what I could use to shine up my wheels?

I bead blasted the steel wheels and them painted them a muted silver. The trim ring and center caps were painstakenly done by hand. The end result is woth it.
