Unanswered: 215/60R13 tyre source?

Help. Anyone know whether 215/60R13 or equivalent tires can still be found in Europe or Asia? My google searches have been fruitless, but maybe tire sizes for some countries are written differently than in the U.S.

I actually managed to find ONE Cooper Cobra in that size. What a fluke. I would just love to find at least one more... but zero chance since they haven't been produced in awhile.

Not ready to give up since I have a really nice set of period 13x7" mags that are just crying for rubber in this weirdo, obsolete size.

also look at Falken ZE-502 ZIEX (60). They offer 205/60R13, which I have on my rear 13x8 rims and 185/60R13 on my fronts 13x5.5. It is nice to have diferent sized wheels and still have the tread match.

Nada!

Some months ago I searched Australia and New Zealand for 215/60R 13 tyres
but they are no longer made here. Second hand 13" Egars go for more than new 15" Pirellis.

I go along with Chris on upgrading to a larger tire. However Tirerack has them in the stock size. http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp. Start at the home page given in the link.
Jim, they make them in the 205/60 13 too, Sumitomo HTR 200 $43.00/ tire or the Hoosier R6 205/60ZR13 at $153.00/ tire. Shipping down under might be pricey though. Hth, Jarrell

15"

Got some 15 X 5 1/2 BBS mags out of the local auto yard's alloy scrap bin and bought Pirelli 195/55R15 tyres for them - same OD as the original 165/80R13 tyres!

I like 13s

I do have 15" wheels on one of my GTs right now. I've also had 16s and 14s before. But I happen to dig the period 13" look, which is also appropriate for classic car rallies. I also like the improved acceleration and braking that comes with the lower rotational mass. And believe it or not, I can still sling a 195/70R13-shod GT around real-world corners about as fast as 15s would take me. Another benefit is that the higher sidewall absorbs alot of roadshock.

I checked the major manufacturers including Falken, and as Jim says, nada! I'm not sure Hoosiers are actually streetable, despite the DOT approval on some products. However, race tires may wind up being my only option when it comes to outfitting these Conrero-correct 13" wheels.

I guess I was hoping that a broader 13" tire selection still existed in rest of the world.

The "R" compounded DOT legal Hoosier race tires are NOT streetable. They can not take the abuse of rocks and pot holes. Besides they don't have any real tread grooves, so they are only good in the dry, period. Also, the rubber is such that as they heat cycle, the rubber gets harder, then they have no grip at all.

If you must buy some of the "NEAR" race tires, get the ones with a tread rating of 140. These are the tires that the SCCA "Street Tire" classes use. Toyo Proxies come to mind. They have plenty of tread to use in most wet conditions, except maybe a thunder storm. They are not intended for snow or extreme cold. They do tend to be a bit pricey tho.

I went looking for the elusive 215/60-13's a few years ago with zero luck. I did just recently find 195/70-13's again however, and those have been nearly as hard to find. Cooper has two models in that size, shown here.

Judging by the tread wear of 440, they're not the stickiest things, but probably a great long-term tire. The taller sidewall will certainly take the 'edge' off the ride quality.

I can attest to the problems with low profile tires, two weeks ago I caught a pot-hole with my 205/45-16's on my Nissan, and it not only holed the tire on contact, it bend the s**t out of the 16 x 7.5 " TSW Evo rim. Of course, those wheels aren't available anymore, so I have to pay big bucks to get it straightened out.

I can attest to the fact that the Sumitomo 205/60R-13 is a pretty damn good tire for the buck. I have two sets and they are great!!

Does anyone have a picture of the Sumitomo HTR 200 205/60-13's
on a Manta or Ascona (or GT even)? Preferably with 1975 5-1/2" rims?

Thanks.

I don't have mine on stock rims, I have them on custom rims, but, the 205/60R-13 will fit on the stock 75 rims

Gene, are those the 205/60R-13's on your white Sportwagon in your album?
Do you recall the rims width if they are? I just want to get an idea of
how that size looks on a Manta/Ascona.
Thanks

Sumitomo

I just bought some of those Sumitomos as well. Previously I had BFGoodrich 235/60/13 and wanted to find some that size again. Seems I looked for months, but couldn't find anything close to that unless it was in a race tire.

Thanks everybody.
205/60R-13's definitely look much better then 165R-13's. And the improvment
in performance over the crap rim protectors the PO put on my Manta has
got me excited to get them as soon as the snow melts.

Mark;
Just make sure to trim out the front valance panel when you get the wheels/tires as they will need clearence.

I'll be looking out for that. You mentioned this when I bought the front stone shield from you, if I ever bought bigger tires....though I had 215/60-13 BFG T/A's on my old Ascona with the stock 5-1/5 wheels and they cleared without
trimming anything on stock springs, IIRC.

205/60 13's online source

I looked around at my local tire shops for 205/60 13's and wasn't able to find much. My best choice was Pep Boys could order Futura GLS Super Sports with raise white letters in that size for $53 each.
I decided to take a look online for other options and found that for reasonably priced tires tirerack.com only had the Sumitomos in that size (and also 195/60 13). A little more searching and I found 5 different reasonably priced tires at tires-easy.com in the 205's. They ranged in price from $38 - $60. I just rechecked today and the $38 Formoza FD1 isn't listed any longer. Two brands are with raise white letters, the Cooper GT and the Avenger GT.
A couple things to consider. You don't have to pay sales tax on most online purchases when buying items out of state. You do have to pay for shipping which usually is about $10/tire. You do have to find and pay a tire installer. Most places will demount, mount, new valve, and balance for $15-$20. You would have to pay this amount even if you bought tires through a tire shop. Both Tirerack.com and tires-easy.com has a search feature to find installer partners in your area. Be careful of listings on tires-easy.com that show $6-$10 for these services. I called two shops to confirm their price. Instead of the low listed price on the site, I was quoted over the phone a $15-$20 price/tire. Although their site says "What is the procedure in case one of your fitters is charging me more than you listed on your website?
If one of our fitting partners is charging you more than listed on our website, we will refund you the difference, provided you send us the invoice issued by our partner." Ya but, who wants to go through the hassle.
I'm still in the deciding. Jerry

I realize you posted this a long time ago. But, in my searching, I came across a hit for that size in New Zealand.

Ok!

Thanks Jerry,

Was looking for some one on the site - to see if anywhere available here.

185 X 13's are quite big enough for me - and nicely fit on 6" rims

My 'best' tyres are 195 X 15 Pirelli's on 6.5" rims.

Tyre/wheel weight is critical for GTs because they are so light - any increase in un-sprung weight has adverse effects on both handling and ride.
