Unanswered: Wide White Walls

I have dreams of wide white walls on my '64 Kadett. Since I'm a month or so out of having it on the road I thought now would be a good time to address wide white walls. On my budget and considering I have 12" rims new tires are out of the equation, they don't make glue on's to fit and plastic paint will crack.

My plan is to power sand the tire smooth, clean with solvent, tape and apply thinned white Plasti Coat (that stuff you dip tool handles in) and let them cure.

Where am I going wrong (or right)?

Upgrading to 13" wheels is one obvious answer, then you can just buy wide white walls in the correct size. Another option
YouTube - Make your own Wide White Wall tires

Every extra penny (minus the $25 bucks for plasti coat & thinner) is going into the interior and body for the time being. I do have dreams of 13" chrome reverse rims but that's on down the road a ways.

The tires are black wall with a raised ring. Do you think there's white rubber underneath? Grinding off a thin layer of rubber would certainly be cheaper and easier.

The PO put narrow white walls on my Manta but faced them inboard at least.
I'm just thinking about the youtube video and making them wide!

Nobody stepped up to save me from myself (I don't blame you, my wife gave up trying a decade ago) so I ordered the white Plasti Dip. I'll post pictures when the deed is done.

Or I know it out there a bit but go to Coker Tire's websiter all they do is sell vintage tires, thats where I get all my tires for restoration purposes on customers cars.

White Lettering

Has anyone found a good way to fill in the letters on a black tire in white? I have tried the "crayon" and the "paint pen" methods and both are awful. Buying new tires isn't an option as my current set have less than 4K miles on them. This is something I'm thinking of doing but just can't live with the results so far. I need another method.

Thanks,

Matt
