Unanswered: Aftermarket Wheel Options

I did about 3 weeks of forum research, phone calls and internet searching looking for wheels that will fit, without modification, on an Opel GT. And maybe the best resource was a person that works for JD Wheels Performance Wheels and Tires who has been putting wheels on Opel GT's for years because he gave practical knowledge of the best 'fit' that can be used. I know the offset is supposed to be 20mm, but +/- 5 will work as well. Now, a lot of the forums were helpful, but unfortunately outdated as the manufacturerers and distributors no longer carry most of the wheels. So to help out, I'm putting a list together of places to go and wheels that will bolt right up to a GT to try and help the next person. So here is what I've found:

There are 2 types of wheels on this site that will work: 501's and the 513's, and both are available in different finishes and sizes

501: Next Level Motoring - Custom Car Parts & Accessories!

513: Next Level Motoring - Custom Car Parts & Accessories!

There are a few on Discout Tire Direct as well:

VOXX MG's:
Wheel Details - Discount Tire Direct

Konig Rewind's:
Wheel Details - Discount Tire Direct

Maxxim Screech (special order):
Wheel Details - Discount Tire Direct

If none of these tickle your fancy, you can log on to JD Wheels Performance Wheels and Tires and contact them, Jeff (I believe that's his name) said that he has 1 wheel to fit and another one on the way that should work.

And just incase anyone is wondering, I went with the 501's in hyper silver. They should be here this weekend and I'll be getting them mounted before I take the car to get the interior completely redone on Monday.

I hope this info helps someone out! And if I messed up on hyperlinking, then whoops, it was my first attempt at it.

Thanks for the info!
Was thinking about updating my wheels.
They are badly pitted and a real pain to clean!!!!
Will have to look at the simple spoke designs.
Low profile tires are also a plus.........maybe then I can get my rear "tire" to handle my increased HP!

Thanks.
Ironically I like your old wheels (slot mags) and not so much my modern 15". (check my gallery) I'm actually hoping to go the other direction! Maybe we should have driven to a parking lot halfway and swapped wheels in a Walmart lot. I'm kidding.
I do like those 501s though.

Keep us updated on how they fit. Those exact rims are probably my favorite out of all the posted rims.. so I may be looking into getting myself a set sometime soon..

I definitely will let you know how they fit on there with the tires on them. I'll take some pictures and get them posted once I get them on the car. Then right after I get those pictures taken, I'll take some of the interior of the car, since I'll be getting it redone next week too!

I have the 501's, but in black. I bought them when they first came out. They were labeled Sportmax Racing rims model 501 from bbist.com. Looks like they have been picked up by next level motoring also. It's the same rim, so look for the best prices.

I went with the 16*8", check my gallery, you can see my car there... I have tried to include pictures from my gallery but I just can't seem to get it to work. This is the only forum that gives me such headache...

While browsing the Photo Gallery, I came across this car. Anyone recognize the rims? They look a lot like the 501's - but they have 2 more 'spokes'.

Yeah, those are Sportmax's (or XXR's) 002's...they are available in a lot of finishes, sizes and offsets...+40, +38 and 0...so not ideal for a GT

What size tires are recommended for the 16x8 rims? Preferably to keep the same, or close to, diameter so the speedo isn't off? More importantly, so the front tires don't rub when turning.

I have 225/45R16 rear and 205/45R16 in front and no rubbing against the fenders. The rear tires are a little over 3% larger in circumference than OEM tires, but that's little and I don't feel it makes any difference.

The tread pattern of the rear tires are about the width of the rim, and hence the tread patterns in front are a little narrower since the rims are equally wide. It makes for a little (as we call it) "german style", where the rims are wider than the tires. But not by much.
Beware of curbs though since the rim isn't protected by the tire wall.

Finally

Well, I got my car back yesterday from getting the interior redone and then went and got the new wheels and tires put on the car. I personally don't think it could've turned out any better than it did. I just uploaded a bunch of pics of the car in my gallery and they are 'pending approval' right now.

And as far as the wheels go...they fit great (205/50/15 tires on all 4) and the ride is way better than the combo that I previously had on the car. No rubbing or clearance issues at all and my car is stock...hopefully the info has helped has someone...

Now thatīs a nice looking car!

I think the wheels finish it off perfectly. The bright silver finish is nice, makes for a pretty different wheel compared to mine which are painted black.
