If it was everything I wanted to know, it would show where to buy those special tools.

It seems that most of those tools were made from unobtainium....

No Special Tools Needed!

Jeff Denton and me had a fun discussion about replacing and setting up diff gears a while ago. "Seat-of-the-pants" stuff; without any gauges!

Uh . . . I said nothing about 'wanted to know', I said 'need to know' . . .

Yeah, no kidding. The info Otto gives is great if you're a certified Opel mech with all the factory special tools and actual genuine parts needed. Good luck.
I found it best to ignore all that and just rebuild the differential with the common sense and experience that comes from thirty years of hot rodding Chevelles and repairing everything from bulldozers to semi trucks... or is it submarines to stock cars.

Amen to that, Jeff . . . I end up fabbing up stuff I need where not available and following general rebuild guidelines based on what I learned from other makes, like you. You do tend to pick up things over 50 years if you pay attention along the way!

I got one of these pullers and it worked for removing bearings from the diff. Only problem I had was the two flat washer bent from the load. Haven't tried it yet for installing bearings..
