"Otto Start"
I have a couple of Monzas too.
The same problem occurs as with GTs - the starting motor, circuit and switch get over-heated and the voltage supplied to the starter gets so low it will not opperate. The answer is to put a relay into the system which by-passes the heavy electrical load and supplies higher voltages to the starting system. Known here as an "OttoStart" because Otto (tekenaar) makes and sells them. http://www.opelgt.com/forums/opel-ti...tructions.html Also, check and clean all the earth wires to help the system.

Fuel Injection
Monzas use the Bosch fuel injection system which depends upon a water temperature sensor (located in the thermostat housing) to let the ECU know the motor has reached operating temperature. Until it gets the signal the system runs fully rich as a cold motor requires more fuel to run.
Check the connection to the sensor (there are two - one for the temperature gauge and another that sends a signal to the ECU) ... from memory it is the larger one that is connected to the injection computer. Also check that the sensor has not been replaced by someone who used PTFE thread tape or Pipe Sealer on the threads - that insulates the sensor from the housing ... and its operation depends upon an electrical connection - read, "ground".
