Unanswered: blown engine

Well after deciding that the OSU/USC game was a lost cause i decided to go out and tear into the extra motor i had. I pulled the head and found out the #1 cylinder had dropped a valve and punched a hole through the piston. My question is, is there anything that i should salvage off the engine ie. crank, good pistons, water pump, etc. I hate to send it to the scrap yard but i am pretty sure the cylinder is scuffed beyond repair. Any ideas would be great. thanks guys.

Of course. You can rebuild what you have. If you just want to part it out, then the crank is good, the head certainly good and perhaps as is. Get 4 overrsize pistons and have the engine bored for the new pistons and you are back in business.
I just looked at your pics. Pretty gunky engine. It needs a complete rebuild.

I'd check the rod in the cylinder with the damaged piston.

I would do as suggested already, clean it up see what real damage it has and then see if an overbore will clean up cylinder wall and go back with oversized pistons. Other than that save everything except the block if it has a cracked wall or gouged beyoung repair and the no. 1 piston.

Keep in mind you can bore from 93mm to 95mm and use the 2.0 litre pistons. Hard to believe you'd have scuffes that deep...

The block could more than likely be saved with a little overbore.
You'll need new pistons anyway so a 2.0 is a good way to go.
You could go a little more bore size if it didn't clean up at .080.
Dump the water pump, buy a new pump. Look closely at the front cover is the oil pump housing good? If it is thats one part you'll need to keep.
The rods and crank might be good also no way to tell without a complete tear down and mic them.
Also keep all bolts some are hard to find.

Thanks for all the info. I will pull out the good pistons, crank, oil pump housing, and the head. I am not interested in a complete rebuild since i have a motor that was just rebuilt not too long ago. This extra engine has just been a paper weight that was dropped off with the car and taking up already limited garage space. Thanks for all the responses but i most likely will pull what i need and scrap the rest unless somebody wants its.
