We're running Targa Newfoundland in a 1971 Opel GT, and we're having trouble: we've blown a head gasket. Expectedly, we can't source a replacement through normal sources. If there's anyone - and I mean anyone - who has a spare head gasket for the 1.9 L Opel cam-in-head engine, please give one of us a call as soon as possible on one of our cells: Jeff - 289-314-4838 Rob - 604-220-3495 If you can help us out, you may be able to save our rally. Thanks, Jeff |

This should be easy. Have you called OGTS? . . . 1-800-OPEL GTS

Sorry I didn't get to this sooner, all.
The response we got was awesome. Rob managed to get onto VOCM, the local talk radio station, and put out a call for Opel parts. In the meantime, our crew chief and the guys from H & H Auto pulled the head off and sent it off to the machine shop. We were overwhelmed with phone calls... we had no idea there were that many Opels in Newfoundland! One of the callers had a complete head gasket kit less than an hour away. We headed off and got it... things were looking promising. The guys worked until about 1:00 a.m to get the engine back together... but after everything was buttoned back up, there was still no compression on any of the cylinders. Rob and Matt spent Tuesday morning checking out a couple leads they had for whole engines, but none of them were in running condition, so that was our rally. ![]() It's too bad things didn't work out better for 2008, but plans are underway for next year. Look for us in the Opel at Targa in 2009. |
