Answered: 2.0 L cylinder head

Hello

I would like to mount a 2.0L cylinder head on the 1.9L engine block of my 1970 Opel GT. The machine shop told me that a 2.0L head doesn't fit on that engine, because it doesn't have the two M8 bolts. Is this correct?

The 2.0 head will work with your 70 1.9. Just use the 70 head gasket. As stated before the extra holes were for the timing cover. It's a matter of matching the correct head gasket for the timing cover. You should be ok. No need to change timing cover.

Incorrect information

The 2.0L head will fit on the earlier style 1.9L engine block. The two extra bolt holes on the cylinder head are for the timing cover. If you change the timing cover to a later model 1.9L '73-75 cover or a 2.0L timing cover there will be the two bolt holes for the 2.0L head. You should also used the later 1.9L head gasket with the correct thickness front edge for the 2.0L cylinder head.

Good luck,

Dave

oil leaks?

Is there no risk of oil leaks when you mount the 2.0L cylinder head with two bolts less?

I use Permatex Aviation gasket sealer around the front. Let it tack up as per instructions. I've done this many times with no leak. Do not use silicone sealers.
