Unanswered: Where to buy new hydraulic lifters?

Hello - I couldn't find any information on here regarding where to buy new hydraulic lifters (other than OGTS). I have a new 2.0L CIH (stock cam, stock head, non-FI) that I installed in my '73 GT and I think one of the lifters is bad (still ticking/rapping after doing initial adjustment).

Also, what other GM cars came with these same lifters? That would make my search a lot easier if other cars came with the same lifters

Also, are the 2.0L hydraulic lifters the same as the 1.9L?

Thanks for any advice!

Paul

Lifters

Hydraulic lifters for the Opel 2.0 CIH, are the same as for the Opel 1.9.
There is no known interchange between the Opel CIH hydraulic lifters and any other (domestic) GM vehicle, and due to its critical high-rpm function, I wouldn't advise trying to re-machine or adapt others. When installing a new camshaft, you do need to use new lifters and follow start-up procedures (to avoid damaging the lobes).

Definitely agree with you. I bought the motor from someone who recently purchased it new/rebuilt from OGTS. It has less than a few thousand miles on it. The cam looks either reground or brand new and so do the lifters... I went through the lifter adjustment procedure again just to make sure there wasn't a lifter overlooked in the building process. I think one lifter is just faulty and sticking (doesn't stick all of the time, but most of the time). With a mechanics stethescope, you can hear one of the front lifters making the noise... I figured that I would try and replace the front 2 just to see if that clears the problem.

Do you know of any place other than OGTS that stocks these lifters?

Do a search for a '73 GT with 1.9 at places like Auto Zone, Advance Auto, etc. I had purchased a set from Auto Zone a couple of years ago but returned them when I decided to go solid. I think they were Melling. Price may be comparative to OGTS though.

I would think that any company that sells camshafts should be able to get you lifters to match the shaft. I have seen somewhere on the site that aftermarket camshafts are readily available.

Just thinking it should work that way

Keep your eye on Ebay.uk. I got my set there very reasonably. Sorry, I no longer have the seller info.

Please tell me, what would be wrong with buying them from OGTS?
That company, well actually its owner has devoted his life to providing us with things that are hard to find for the cars we love. I support him every time I can.

I had been thinking this myself. I like to buy locally especially if there is a savings. With that being said they are fairly competitive a lot of times with local prices plus they only deal with Opels so they KNOW what they are doing. And last but not least compare their customer service and professionalism to ANYONE else's and see who comes up short. I don't think it will be OGTS.

There may be a GM lifter that will dimensionally fit but watch out if it has a hole in the top to lube OHV through the push rod.

Don't get me wrong.... I've have purchased probably 99% of my Opel parts from them in the past few years and they are indeed the best and most dedicated group of enthusiasts. For smaller items such as a few lifters (oil filters, some gaskets) I just go down to Napa and pick them up - they usually have them in stock. 2 reasons: I am impatient sometimes and like to work on the GT when I have the time (like this weekend) instead of waiting a week for the parts. Also, for such small items (price wise), the shipping adds up... I would love to buy a $1,000 worth of parts, at once, to minimize the shipping costs, but can't afford that at the moment.

It's not that big deal that I get them elsewhere, I just was curious if there was a local autoparts store/distributor that sold these lifters.

Thanks for all the help guys!

There used to be no big deal getting them anywhere, but that was before the big corporate buyouts some years ago. It now seems that every auto parts manufacturer is under a larger umbrella corporation. I used to buy them independently from Sealed Power, TRW, Melling, GM directly (all the 'German' hydraulic lifters are in fact made in the USA), and AE. At one point these were all independently made. Over time, all that was left was the corporate TRW/Sealed power brand, and GM. Now, it's getting tough to find even them.
