Unanswered: intake manifold keeps coming loose

72 GT with 2.2 liter engine from OGTS. i notice that the exhaust/intake manifolds share the same gasket. i've replaced that. what i noticed was that the exhaust manifold actually has holes drilled into the ends so that it won't slip off the bolts. i've also noticed that the intake manifold does not, and it basically just holds on by sheer torque on the bolts that it shares with the exhaust manifold. i think the bolts keep working themselves loose and my intake is slipping, creating a vaccuum leak. is this setup normal and what can i do to remedy it. i've also noticed that on the intake manifold, there are holes at the top that a bolt can go into to attach it to the engine block but there are no holes in the engine block.

The center bolts have thick washers, or at least they do on mine, to create a sealing area pushing the manifold towards the block. The intake manifold also has two holes on top and the block should have two short studs that hold the manifold in place. Even without the short studs, the amount of available down travel is very small.

The intake manifold bolts are easy to strip and then they do not tighten . If your bolts are O.K. then you could add grounding star washers ( Radio Shack for 3/8 washers ) to help hold the manifold .
Your cyl. head does not use the locating studs ( 2.2 ) because your intake is modified to fit the 2.2 if I am correct it was machined to fit your Eng. HTH

Um, obvious question: is the flange on the intake manifold the same thickness as the exhaust manifold, at least at the points that the bolt washers contact? It sounds like your intake flange is thinner.
