Hey everyone this is a NON OPEL question, but I thought I'd throw this question out there just in case we have any members who are mechanics or others who may have had this experience.

My roomate owns a 98 Dodge Dakota 4x4 Truck. While driving it today he came to a stop and while his foot was on the brake the car suddenly jerked forward and the wheels began to spin! He let off the brake quickly and depressed it again and all of the sudden the acceleration stopped

He said this has happened 2 or 3 times before. I looked up recalls online but nothing that matched....

Next I'll call the dealer service dept for him... any ideas or suggestions or experience???

Sounds like a torque converter problem, very common on Dakota's.

I havent worked professionally as a mechanic in quite a few years.

I will make a comment, I have seen this in older days when a person stopped after driving with cruise control on. & the cruise control brake dump switch would remain engaged, sometmes would have to kill ignition switch to stop it.

the torque converter is a good possibility as well. only had a few bad ones during my days as a mechanic & they were lock up converters trying to stay permanetly locked up & would kill engine at stop light, like if stopped without pushing in the clutch.

Sounds good, I'll have to let him know so he can take it in to the shop and have it checked out. Thanks!
