I just finished installing a 14" Permacool Electric Fan in my '73 GT. I mounted it in front of the radiator as a pusher fan, exactly like the instructions given by Jimsky (Thanks big time Jimsky!). I looked at a puller installation, but there only looks to be a couple of inches between the fan pulley and the radiator, and I didn't want any clearance problems. Besides, w/ the fan in front of the radiator, the engine compartment looks cleaner IMHO. It was a lot of work, though, as you have to cut away part of the radiator support crossmember to get clearance for the fan (a little scary to cut away at the original metalwork). But, once I finished it, and tested it out, watching that fan turn on and off on it's own was a great feeling (I bought the car w/ no fan at all, so I couldn't drive it until this little project was done).

Also, I am running an ARA air conditioner with a double crankshaft pully and so I think that my water pump (and alternator) pulleys have ~1/2" spacers under them to move them forward to run off the front belt. So, a stock GT should have this much more room between the radiator and WP pulley than mine does. Sorry to not be more precise, but I just can't get a closer measure without doing some dismantling. Hope this helps! |
