I'll bet your fan belt is loose or needs replacing.

Or more likely your water pump bearing is shot. See if the pump turns freely, then check the alternator the same way. Loosen the belt to check if it isn't obvious.

Are we talking the water pump fan or the heater fan? I read your post and thought heater...
In either case squealing would probably be bearings. If its the heater then you will have to remove it and lube them. Kind of a pain. If its the water pump check the fan belt tightness. If its not the fan belt then replace the pump. Or as Timemachine suggests, check the alternator. Good Luck! |

I remember back in 1977 on one cold wimter morning I went into the garage to start my Kadett to go to school.
What probably happened was...........the night before when I drove in to the garage a cat followed me in to escape the cold and crawled into the engine compartment from the bottom to keep warm near the rad. When I started the car in the morning I heard this squeling sound and a large bang. My 5 bladed fan was now a 2 bladed fan and I saw this cat.........I do not think I killed it as it took off out of the garage. Now this probably does not solve your problem at hand but I thought it would be one item to cross off of your list. |

Sorry to go OT but my cat once climbed inside the fender (between the panels) of my 66 Cutlass. He spent the whole day in there, 20 some miles to and from work and all day in the sun on a very hot day. He lived.
