Unanswered: Cooling System Upgrade

Hello All!

At EDC Inc. we just don't tell you it can be done, we do it and show you it can be done. So when we sell an item as a bolt on replacement, you already know that substantial research and functionality testing has been performed.

As previously stated, you can further "RICE" your Opel with a Honda radiator, which can be used as a direct replacement with good results. I purchased a Godspeed aluminum radiator for a '01 Honda Civic and installed it on my '72 Opel GT. Bare in mind the radiator is cooling a V-6 instead of a 4-cyl. The unit is all welded aluminum, has two rows of 1" cooling lines, has 33% additional cooling fin contact and carries approx. an extra quart of coolant. All of this in a package which is sligtly smaller than the original 2-core Opel unit. Best of all, it weights 4lbs installed without coolant and the cost was $96.00 including freight.

To mount, you need to make two brackets for the bottom and one for the top since the radiator has mounting pins welded to the case. A trip to a salvage yard can solve the bracket problem easily and makes the installation a custom fit. The original shroud fits with minor mods since you need to clear the top hose at its new location. The top and bottom cooling hose diameter is the same as stock but the top hose is mounted in the center, which is very good for V-6 applications. My average temperature reading now is 178 degrees versus the 186 obtained with a 3-core Opel radiator.

See the pics and judge for yourself, looks and performs quite good!!!!!!

Lindsay, that looks like a radiator overflow bottle.

That is a standard 12" hotrod chrome radiator overflow bottle. Had a few left over so decided to install one. Beats having a puddle from time to time under the car.
