Unanswered: Stock intake

I have my sprint exhaust already in with the two bolts on the sides holding it there. Now I want to put the intake on but I'm worried about that finned bottom. I tried searching for what I should do if anything, but since I don't know what its called it was hard.

Am I supposed to touch that part of my intake that once sat on the exhaust manifold. Is there any torquing problems from the intake not being supported anymore? I would imagine that I can get rid of that gasket that marries the exhaust and the intake.

If that triangle spot on the sprint manifold interferes with the intake, by all means grind it down. I've seen postings that some people have had to grind it down to get the intake to seal correct. I've installed an intake without having to do that. Most important is to get your intake to seal properly.

No Touchie!

The sprint exhaust and the alloy intake manifold should not touch each other - you may have to grind a small piece from the bottom of the intake (where it once sat on the old exhaust manifold).

The bolts that hold the manifolds on to the head are big enough to keep the manifolds in place without the two manifolds being joined together like the old set-up. However, after the motor has been started and run for a while check the manifold bolts to make sure they are correctly tightened still and after 250kms check again. Then check each time you service the car.

DON'T do them up too tight - just to the torque specifications in the Factory Service Manual (33 lbs-ft) - or you might break the bolts or pull them out of the threads in the head.

Make sure that the manifold bolts have the big thick washers on them that bridge the gap between the exhaust and intake manifolds next to the head.

I got the parts to fit but now I am concerned about something else.

I was cleaning out the intake and scrubbed it in some gas and then pressure washed it. After I pressure washed it i found some orange rubber pieces that look like they had threads in them. Where did this get blown out of my intake and where can a buy a replacement (and what is it called and how do I install it).

That sounds like the dreaded PO had stripped some threads in the manifold and their cure was to use RTV to hold the bolt/stud in place in the stripped out hole. It would be in your best interest to use a bolt and run it through all the threaded holes to find which one was stripped.

I think the rubber piece was covering the threads in the break vaccum hole on the inside (maybe so that the threats don't get clogged with gunk. Is it alright to install the intake without this rubber cover (lol protection first)?

Also just to make sure to put my 32/36 on the intake I need these parts:

9018 GASKET HEAT SHIELD TO INTAKE MANIFOLD
9004 GASKET CARBURETOR TO INTAKE MANIFOLD

The only thing between my carb and my intake originally was a 1/16" fiber gasket.
