Unanswered: intake manifold
In the process of loading the truck for the show this weekend, I found two Opel intake manifolds with dual upright carbs. One has dual one barrel carbs and the other has dual two barrel carbs, they both have the Opel emblems on them and the linkage is the sasme as a GT but a bit longer. Any ideas??????

Intake Manifolds
Are they both Cam in Head manifolds? If they are opel factory manifolds the one that takes 2 one barrel carbs. in most likely to be a 1100SR manifold (small OHV engine) the other one that takes 2 two barrel manifolds in more than likely a "sprint" manifold for a Cam in Head (1.9, 2.0) don't throw either one of them away I'm sure someone on this forum could use either one of them. Send pictures and I can ID them for sure.

record sprint for the twin choke carbs if they are for a cih
if the single barrel one feeds downwards they will be 1.1 gt or kadett sport do you have the air filtres for them? if so watch out for otto going in to feeding frenzy mode if you can find air filter cases for the twins ,hes been after them for a while

The air filters were not there along with the two manifolds. They were inside a plastic container along with 9 assorted webber carbs and linkages. I know we took them off engines at a given point in the past but both of the manifolds look pretty much the same, just different carbs. I also found several carb adapters made to install Rochester 2-jet on the 1.1L and 1.9L manifolds and some Buick 42mm mono-jets setup for Kadett intakes.
The second floor on my shop is full of parts that we keep from car we have worked on. However no one has ever bothered to actually lable any of them before they go into storage.

Hey, I like the look of that! But I just got my DGAS 38 rebuilt. I wonder if TWO DGAS 38's would fit in a GT.....?

Yep!
The first (sold) set of dual downdraft twin barrel carbs (Weber DFOs BTW - the "O" is for Opel) is a Record "Sprint" set ... came with the original "Sprint" exhaust manifold.
The later set of single barrel Solex twin carbs is from a 1.1L Kadett "SR" motor.

I'd consider selling my second dual DFO manifold, carbs and manifold linkage if someone is interested. This one sat on a shelf in Germany for 20-plus years after it was removed from the car when I bought it and has not been touched by me other than installing a bushing for the linkage cross bar (missing). Carbs should be inspected for dirt and generally cleaned before use . . . general precaution for old parts sitting for a long time. I'll post post pics and list on ad board, if anyone is interested. This will NOT fit GT, but will fit all others, Manta/1900/Kadett, FYI.

Not sure where to post ?
I have been reading up on RallyBob,
directions on porting the intake manifold. He uses epoxy to build up the shape. I want to use steel (possibly out of two pcs so I can insert them in) and use JB weld to hold them inside. Here is the overall shape. Has anyone done this, does anyone have the dims for these pcs. I need some directions thanks |

I regards to the insert you wish to make, there are no readily available dimensions, simply because there are many types and years of Opel intakes, and they all have different internal shapes/sizes. That having been said, I make all my inserts on a piece-by-piece basis to fit the specific intake I'm working on. And I prefer to remove the bottom of the stock intake plenum completely, and weld the new 'insert' from the underside. Much easier to access the runners for porting this way, and also far easier to weld the insert from the underside. Link to modified intake photos Bob Last edited by RallyBob; 10-20-2006 at 03:33 PM.
