Intake manifold attached to the exhaust manifold?

Just me but wouldn't this contribute to overheating? Just seems like the strangest thing as we are taking this apart. Is there any way to improve the situation?

Not sure if I should put this in cooling or exhaust!

    intake

There should be a heat shield between the manifold and the carb.If it is still there it works pretty well.

I think it is a "fuel system" issue mainly, so I put it there.

The connection of the intake manifold to the exhaust was to improve fuel atomization at cold temperatures. It doesn't affect engine cooling in any way, but it DOES cause problems with vapour lock, and can cause the gas in the carb bowl to boil off. The heat shield helps, but most folks who run their cars in warmer weather find the Sprint exhaust manifold, which doesn't use the heat stove design, works better (as would a header). There is a bunch of threads in the "Exhaust" and the "Engine Mechanical" forums on this manifold. Just search for "Sprint".
