Unanswered: Starts and runs, but not well at low rpm...

Ok, so I finally got my project car to start.. (it hasn't since 1975).. Rebuilt the engine with a new block and pistons/rings - rebuilt original head with new seals/gaskets all over.

It is a 16S with a rebuilt Solex.. It starts easily now and runs ok when cold, but wont idle. When hot the water-choke opens up like it should, but then the problems start. The car wont run at all on low rpms - the only way to keep it running is by pumping the throttle, thus engaging the accelerator pump. On high rpms I can keep the throttle steady and it will run ok. I have checked for vacuum-leaks all over - including the brake booster. Any ideas what I could check next?

if you haven't already (it isn't in your post), just play with the idle adjustment on the carb and you should be ok, if that doesn't work then make sure all the passages and jets in the carb are clear of crap, you might have missed something when you rebuilt it

Idle adjustment on a solex is a little involved. I think the procedure is available by doing a search for solex. If you have problems finding it, send me a PM and I'll send you a copy from the FSM.
