I found that the VW bug, and bus carb is the same as the Opel. So you can go to a VW shop and get a Webber without ordering one and paying shipping. I can get a good working used one at a local shop for for $50.00.
72 manta, 1.9 liter. stock carb At idle it drips fuel from the main jet pretty good, give it a little gas and it drips alot more. it seems to like to idle at 1200 RPM's, and has okay power, but doesn't really get going till 4k. It also backfired once when I shut it off. (it isn't driven about...
The 38 DGEV I installed a few months back really woke up my engine. The car runs stronger all the way up the RPM range, and starts better when cold then the 32/36 I had before. However, it can be a pain to restart when hot. It has even vapor locked on me while in traffic. I have since insulated the...
I have a pair of 32/36 DGV Webers, an older one marked "Made in Italy" and a brand new one marked "Made in Spain" I'm curious if there is any significant difference I should be aware of before deciding which one to install in my GT..? Another question, should I replace the old hard-plastic...
Hello Folks! This is my first post here. I just purchased a 1970 GT which had been sitting in a garage for 20 years. The body is in fairly good shape with minimal rust. It runs if you pour gas directly into the carb. I finally got the gas tank pulled today and of course it is full of sludge. ...
Per the discussions we've had recently, when I filled up my GT for the first time yesterday I first added a bottle of lead substitute to the tank before adding premium gasoline. Before today Emmy would start right up - I really didn't even have to use to the choke. Today, it took some major...
Thanks for all the information. Now I have a few other questions on this. I've noticed that my GT will run smooth as can be sometimes, and other times it will run rough and want to pop and backfire at first when I attempt to rev it up, but then it will usually get to a point where it smooths out...
I moved the gas inlet on back of the car up 6" while doing the body work to allow for a rear spoiler, now I'm going to have to come up with some kind of flexible hose to go into the gas tank. All the flexible hose I can get from Autozone, Carquest, etc...are to stiff to use. Does anyone know of...
The secondary on my 69GT Auto (with a 71 engine and 32/36 weber) does not open early enough. It does open when I mechanicly operate the linkage but is pretty much when the linkage is at max range. Is there a baseline RPM it should open at? Thanks Bill Moon
OK, it's time to start the fun part of this re-build. After spending most of the spring with disassambly, clean-up, painting old parts, & waiting for new engine "innards" to arrive, I've come to a cross road. Just a couple of questions..for now. I have the Weber 32/36 with water choke. This has...
Does anyone have experience improving performance of the 75 motor using the stock F/I? What would be the best piston/cam/cylinder head combination for the stock F/I? Has anyone played with the intake plenum, brain box or ignition timing in this motor? Any advice and/or experience would be...
How many baffles are in a stock GT gas tank (is it just one?) i'll need to sandblast inside of tank seeing as how the rust problem was worse than i thought and the metal ready from POR 15 just couldn't handle that large of an amount need to know so I know how many holes to cut and reweld......
Ok I have a disguting problem here.Fuel Supply Not doing it's job. Problem: Lack of fuel under load( doesn't matter at high or low RPM's) Diagnosis: Bad fuel pump, Obstruction,Faulty hoses, Dirty Fuel Tank. Well i narrowed it down to bad fuel pump only getting 2 lbs of pressure at Carb. So buy...
I just put in the combination cam and chevy valves in my 1.9 engine. Timing seems correct, but I cannot keep the engine idling without keeping the butterflies to the choke closed. I changed the gasket under the carb, doped the threads on the intake manifold, and still runs rough. Tried to richen...
Thinking about all the carb problems I´ve had in the past. Has anyone put efi on a 1900 and if so, how and what would I need to do?
A VW friend of mine is trying to talk me into bossing my spare intake for CIS fuel injectors and running a GTI fuel injection system. It actually doesn´t sound like a bad idea, better fuel distribution, no carb issues, and since it is all mechanical injection, no wiring harnesses to worry...
Thanks oldopelguy, I saw the fuel cells in jegs and wondered if they would work. I think I´ll go that route. Hey if you don´t find that air cleaner boot, I´ll try your 3" flex hose idea. It will only be a driver and doesn´t have to be original just functional! I do have a 70...
after a year of just trying to get the car onto the road, and all i get is a car that can go about a mile and a half and starts choking like hell. i´ll basically tell you all i know, i´m test driving my 73 gt and get all the way to the end of my road (about a mile and a half) put it...
