Unanswered: Kadett 1.9 headpipe squished ???????

I purchased this new head pipe for a 69 Kadett 1.9. I thought it was NOS, but later found it was warehouse stock aftermarket. Anyways I noticed that the two pipes when they join together; one is crunched down to fit quite a bit I feel. Was the factory pipe like this, or were they equally chrushed down to fit to one pipe. Picture attached

Keith;
I don't think so, that looks rather restrictive......

No Good!

The joint is badly done and the two pipes are usually two or three times as long before meeting. At least you have a good new top flange and the bad bits can be cut out and replaced.

if you were to cut out the inside bits and gusset as in the black filler shown they would be OK to use

Not even close! Depending on use, GT, Kadett or Manta/1900, there are three distinct 1.9 headpipes, not interchangeable with each other due to chassis and engine mounting differences. Here's how the stock one looks in my '69 Kadett LS:

Wow, that headpipe's not even close to stock! Besides the adverse affects of the crimped pipe, the secondary tubes are about 20" too short! It's gonna kill what (little) torque you already have.
