Unanswered: 1975 Ascona Exhaust

I'm getting ready to replace my exhaust system. Does anyone make a kit from the manifold back or do I just use a muffler shop? Can we buy the twin down pipe that bolts to the manifold or must that be fabricated?

I have done a search and not found anything.

I can tell you from experience, that you will not find the front head pipe (the one that attaches to the exhaust manifold with 6 bolts) in this country. I searched for a year, finally asked my MIDAS buddy to check MIDAS' stock, they found the last one for me in Canada. I did find out that WALKER of Europe does still sell the headpipe for the Manta/Ascona for about $30-40 USD or the euro eqivalent. It would probably run about $120 minimum to ship the pipe here (it's about 6 ft long), or you can save a lot by having them cut the pipe about about 3-4 inches after it goes into one pipe and just ship the real part you need, the rest any compitent muffler shop can finish up. If yours is totally shot, I have one or two decent sections to sell. I would suggest that most shops will not touch those 6 bolts that attach the pipe to the mainfold. You would do well to do them yourself, but, soak them good with P B Blaster and give it s shot, or better yet, cut the tubes offjust down from the 6 bolts, and get the manifold off the car and on a work bench, I will also add that since these 6 bolts will be very rusty, it's a good bet you may have to run the manifold to a machine shop and have the bolts drilled and rethreaded. But, I wish you luck and that they come on out. If so, go to the parts section of this site and get the stainless steel stud kit to make this FAR easier in the future.

Mr Clifton
After spending way too much time on EBay looking all over the world, OGTS has complete systems front to rear including the head pipe. I ordered it this morning for about $400 delivered.
