In theory, the ball bearing is set to the exact point that is required. There isn't an "advance" to set to. As long as the ball bearing in the flywheel lines up with the pointer, the timing is set.

and that's with the vacuum line removed from the distrib and plugged. Timed my Manta last week and it is such a pleasure compared to trying to peek down and in the hole to time the GTs!

Why would you even want the factory timing spec's for a '73 on todays fuels?
My advice would be to kick the initial to around 10 btdc then keep the total under 40 degrees.
