Unanswered: Amazing clutch story

I finally dropped my old engine out this past weekend. I'm using several parts off of it for the new one, so I'm having to clean and paint them as I go. Amazing how grungy stuff can get in 33 years!

Tonight I pulled the throwout bearing and fork out of the bellhousing. To my amazement, the throwout bearing is locked up tight! Now, up untill 2 weeks ago I was still driving the car. It always shifted perfectly with NO noise from the clutch. It was slipping when I got rough with it though.

I've just never seen a bad throwout bearing that didn't scream bloody murder.

I had one do that to me in the 73 that I drive from time to time (down for mods right now, brakes an attemp at 300 hp ect..) anyway like I was saying I had one do that to me, about half way to work one day shifting became a little difficult like the pilot bearing was locking down but no noise, when I was leaveing work I went to shift and the pedal went to the floor so I limped it home with no clutch (thank god I live in the sticks) when I pulled the tranny it had quietlly eaten the fingers off the p plate. evedently the carrier decentigrated and locked the bearing and there was enough clutch dust (and oil from a leaking valve cover) to keep the thing queit.
