Unanswered: flywheel weight

Just out of curiosity, what does a stock 1.9L flywheel weigh after it has been machined flat for a S-10 clutch?

I've never *just* had one machined flat, I've always taken some material off the back at the same time...they end up being 14.5 lbs.

But if I had to guess, I'd say about 18 lbs or so (stock is about 22.75-23.25 lbs).

Thanks Bob, that answered my question perfectly. I wondered if machining it flat would get the flywheel to the weight I want. But with the #'s you quoted, I will have to remove a little more material.

I wouldn't suggest taking too much off, Bob's advice is invaluable.

When i built my beastie, i think we took a bit too much off the flywheel as she doesn't like ticking over......that said when you do hit the loud pedal she does like to rev like a good-un

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 10lbs of rotating weight attached to an engine the equivalent of 100lbs of weight?

Also remember that the S-10 clutch is larger/heavier the the stock Opel clutch, so you are not saving as much total weight as you might think. Unfortunately, I didn't remember to weigh mine before I installed it.

I also did not just take the step off to mount the S-10 clutch.
I did weigh the two(Pressure Plate & Disc) of the S-10 vs Opel and the Delta was a even match. With a slight nod to the S-10 assembly being a few grams lighter.

I had a used opel set hanging around so on the scales they went.
Disc 907 grams
Pressure plate 4794 grams
