Unanswered: Clutch and brake pedal

I am switching from an auto to a 4 speed tranny and have a quick question. The retaining bolt that the brake and clutch pedal pivots on is longer for the 4speed setup. How do you get the rod/bolt through the brake pedal and into the pivot assembly? I tried every imaginable angle, etc to try to get it in. Only thing I can figure is to cut a hole into the firewall to get a straight shot in.

I don't remember how but you don't have to do anything drastic. Did you try going in from the other direction. You know if you got it out a donor car then it has to go into the recipient .

Don't forget to put a pilot bearing in your crankshaft before installing the manual transmission.

Finally got it in with a little added frustration. Should of seen me trying to get the old one out. Tight space, bad light, after a few minutes I realized that it was only a cotter pin holding the brake pedal on after taking the pivot rod off. Actually my donor pedals were still attached to a pivot assembly. Only modification was to punch out the plastic plug off the firewall and attach the bracket for the longer pin and clutch pedal. Five more minutes to tighten the nut, slip the clutch cable on the pedal and the spring back on the brake pedal (almost forgot)

I've seen the e-clips break that are used for adjustment of the clutch cable. I like to use two of the metal washers like what is under the e clip. The washer is approx. the same thickness as the ridges on the cable. I place the first washer in the stock location with an e clip behind it, the second washer behind it with an e clip backing it up. It just gives me a feeling of security since I once had to start my car in gear and shift without a clutch until I could get to a hardware store and buy another.

We have all been there. Get a rechargable LED Drop light, this will solve your problem and no ruff service lightbulb burns to the forehead to boot!!
