Unanswered: Opel-friendly transmission repair shop plug!!

Members located in the triangle of Louisville, Cincinnati and Indianapolis may find this of interest. Located an hour of south of Indianapolis is Edinburgh, IN home to - what else - Edinburgh Transmissions, 106 Plum St., Edinburgh, IN., 812-526-7933.

The owner Dave repaired the transmission in my '95 Ranger, and did an excellent job.

When I inquired whether or not he had had any experience with Opel's, he became very talkative, and said he had owned a Kadett for a period of time back in the '70s. He has been in business since 1975, so I would estimate he and I are both looking at the rapidly approaching half-century mark.

His knowledge is thorough, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to others. When my Kadett wagon is a little farther along, I'll have him rebuild the TH-180 in it.

Incidentally, he mentioned he would like to find a nice TR-6, if anyone in the area knows of one for sale within reason.

This brings up a potential upgrade to the forums. What if there were a place on this site to post similar Opel-friendly garages/repair shops/parts suppliers? Not in thread-format, but more like the member's list where you could search by state. Then you choose your state to find a local shop that caters to Opels. Very good to have if you are traveling across the country as well, you can plan your route accordingly.

I know there is a list of helpful Opel folks for cross country trips (I know I used it). That is not a bad idea I like it!!

Brilliant!!

Have to hand it to you Bob, and others. Honestly, for some of us in -ahem- a certain 'age bracket', I have just assumed there will always be others around who can remember the Opels. That will not be the case for too many more years, and it is best to act now to establish (re-establish?) the network of friendlies we will need. Use it or lose it!

This gentleman in particular really enjoyed discussing Opels, and I could tell it about made his day to talk with someone of earlier times. I had nothing to lose inquiring as to his experience and knowledge, and in the end I'm sure he will have repeat business no matter what make or model I need serviced.

His enthusiasm for what too few of us remember was delightful.
